mental health poster150World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. An initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health. WMHD is an annual program held on 10 October to raise public awareness of mental health issues worldwide.

One in five Australians will experience mental illness this year. You can encourage help seeking behaviour, reduce the stigma of mental illness and foster connectivity in communities by joining the 2015 WMHD campaign, by making a mental health promise, an initiative of Mental Health Australia.

A Nouwen Network, a ‘grassroots’ nonprofit outreach based in Brisbane, also has campaigns and resources on their website. It is a support and advocacy group committed to fostering inclusion in church communities and the provision of appropriate pastoral support for those for those affected by mental health issues.

A Nouwen Network also advocates for the establishment of a Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding on the Sunday of October or immediately following World Mental Health Day 10 Oct. Workplaces of church organizations and schools are invited to participate in the Day of Prayer on a weekday of choice during Mental Health Week (which is always held to coincide with World Mental Health Day).
