Canon Law for Religious Leadership 2018

Maria Casey rsj 150The first cycle of the current Canon Law for Religious Leadership programme was held from 25 to 29 September.  This is the fourth time this programme which began in 2009 was held.  Some thirty participants attended. Most were there for the first time although three participants had completed the three year course and were duly acknowledged.

Helen Delaney rsm 250The main emphasis this year was on the vows but other presentations dealt with norms common to all institutes, the obligations and rights of members and institutes, winding up an institute, separation from the institute, assistance to be given to departing members and privacy law.  Presenters included:  Sisters Maria Casey RSJ, Helen Delaney RSM, Moira Hanlen FDNSC, Mary Wright IBVM, and Patricia Scully, Brother Brian Sweeney FMS and Mr Paul Davis.

Next year’s programme will focus on governance (constitutions and other governance documents, chapter, superiors and councils) and temporal goods, including patrimony and the property of members of religious institutes.  Provision will be made for the attendance of financial personnel on the relevant day/s if so desired.  A tentative date has been scheduled for 1 to 4 October but further information will be sent out before the end of the year
