Salesian Father William Matthews, a Myanmar-born priest who migrated to Australia at the age of 23 has been elected the new Salesian Provincial of Australia-Pacific, according to Don Bosco Now, the news blog for the Salesians in Australia and the Pacific.
On 20th June 2017, Fr William Matthews was appointed as the 11th Provincial of Australia-Pacific for the period of 6 years (2018-2024).
Fr William was born in Mandalay (Myanmar) on June 3, 1971 and grew up at St Joseph’s Salesian parish. Then he joined the Nazareth Aspirantate in Anisakan straight after secondary education in 1991. His family migrated to Australia in 1994 and William re-joined the Salesians in Melbourne, Australia in 1995.
For the past nine years, Fr. William has been Delegate for Social Communications in the Province and in the past three years he has taken also the responsibility of Vocations Animator.
