Religious women recognised with Queen's Birthday honours

Order of Australia QueensPresentation Sister Elvera Sesta and Mercy Sister Betty Schonfeldt were among 891 Australians - over 30 of them are Catholics - in the Queen's Birthday 2017 Honours List.

Sr Elvera was lauded for her service to secondary education in Queensland. She is the longest serving principal of St Rita’s College with 20 years of service from 1989-2008. Sr Betty was recognised for her service to social welfare in Adelaide with over  25 years as the founding Administrator of Carrington Cottages, a boarding house for 50 homeless men in the City of Adelaide.
