Maria Teresa Spinelli, the founder of the Augustinian Sisters Servants of Jesus and Mary, was declared Venerable by Pope Francis who signed the decree in late 2016.
She was a a wife, a mother, a Religious who led a life of suffering, but of complete faith in God.
She heard a call to respond to the need for education, particularly in Frosinone, Italy, where there was no school for girls. She opened the first public school in the area that accepted girls. This school had a profoundly Christian foundation and sought to educate its pupils with love and respect.
Between 1957 and 1989 the Augustinian Sisters, Servants of Jesus and Mary spread outside Europe to North and South America, Africa and Asia.
