The Diocese of Broken Bay is delighted to host a Bible Conference on the Gospel of John on 12-13 September 2014 at the Caroline Chisholm Centre, Pennant Hills. The Conference brings together Australian biblical scholars Rev Professor Francis Moloney SDB and Associate Professor Mary Coloe PBVM, who together with Bishop David Walker will lead a journey through the Gospel of John.

The conference, “The Gospel of John – Joy Made Complete”, will draw on current scholarship to uncover fresh new insights into this text with leading Johannine scholars. This conference follows on from last year’s successful Bible Conference on St Luke.

Professor Francis Moloney is a Salesian priest and Senior Professorial Fellow at Australian Catholic University. He has published a number of significant works on the Gospel of John and is highly regarded in this field.

Dr Mary Coloe is a Presentation Sister and Associate Professor at Yarra Theological Union and Chair of the Biblical Department. She taught for over 20 years within the Australian Catholic University, and also teaches in Jerusalem. Her specialist research area is the Gospel of John and she is a published author.

Fr Vince Casey, Administrator of the Diocese of Broken Bay, invites all to take part. “Please join us for what will be an enriching experience of breaking open the Scriptures,” he said.

The Gospel of John comes out of a different tradition from the other Gospels and, being a later work, draws from greater theological reflection and use of symbols. By engaging with this text, we can discover a richness and depth that could otherwise be missed.

The conference is suitable for all who wish to deepen their knowledge of scripture, including parishioners, Ministers of the Word, Pastoral Associates, catechists, teachers, Clergy and Religious.
