salesian missionsThe Australian Salesian Mission Office supports the work of the Salesians who work in the frontline for alleviating povery and disaster response.

They are well placed to make responses that are quick, compassionate, generous and help local people to be involved in their own sustainable growth together with a rights-based approach to education.

The recently published Salesian Missions Newsletter 2014 has news on mission work around the world and projects supported by Australian fundraising such as disaster management and reconstruction in the Solomon Islands, vocational teaching and training of young people in Samoa, Timor Leste and India.

The Salesian mission is driven by the call at their recent General Chapter in Rome to return to the poor and abandoned and place them at the forefront of their activities:

We want to be a Congregation of the poor, for the poor.
Like Don Bosco we maintain that this is our way of living
the Gospel in a radical way and being more available and
relevant to the needs of the young, bringing about in our life a genuine exodus towards the most needy.

Read the news updates from the Salesian Missions Newsletter 2014 and find out how you can help Salesians be "of the poor, for the poor."
