Laudato Si ActionPlan english web coverAre you looking for parish resources to help your parish or local community support and respond to the call of Laudato Si'? Does your parish need to raise awareness on this groundbreaking encyclical on caring for creation?

Several American Catholic archdioceses have produced useful resources to help their parishes engage the local community to look at new ways to "Care for Our Common Home". These documents can serve as a good starting point for organisations to reflect upon, discuss or adapt the recommendations for action and help the Encyclical animate local parishes or organisations towards ecological conversion.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford in Connecticut has recently published its "Laudato Si' Action Plan" through its Social Justice Office.

The Archdiocese of Washington also produced "A Parish Toolkit on the Encyclical by Pope Francis".

The Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta published an Action Plan for Georgia. It is promoted through the Archdiocese's "Refresh' campaign on social media,  which celebrates the community's efforts to create a more sustainable world for future generations. This 38-page action plan offers a menu of initiatives for parishes and families. The report lists categories of concern including: energy efficiency and conservation; recycling; transportation; water use; buying and sharing food; sustainable landscapes; helping those in the congregation most impacted by extreme weather changes; practical ways to inform and engage young people in the message of the encyclical; and political action. Within each category are a series of suggested actions, ranked from the easiest, such as shopping with reusable bags, to moderate and advanced changes, such as installing an electric car charging station on parish or school grounds. The plan proposes that churches or schools ask for an energy audit to help them find energy savings. It recommends faith communities serve their vulnerable members by helping those likely to be most hurt by severe weather. It also advises helping enlist them in appropriate services, such as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or cooling stations in the summer.

The Gobal Catholic Climate Movement also recently launched the "Eco-Parish Guide for Catholic Parishes". Download this free comprehensive guide for parishes to take concrete action and respond to the call of Laudato Si'.
