light the way smallCatholic Earthcare invites all people of all faiths to call for urgent action to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change and join thousands across the globe in the "Light the Way" campaign for a better future.

The evening before global goals for sustainable development are adopted and Pope Francis addresses the United Nations General Assembly in New York, thousands of people will stand united under one sky.  From Australia to India, South Africa to Brazil, thousands will "Light the Way" through every continent and call for urgent action to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change. As the sun sets over cities around the globe, and as darkness sets in, lights will shine brightly.

In Sydney, come together in an informal park setting on Thursday, 24 September 2015 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM (AEST) at Milsons Point, NSW. Offer a prayer for our earth, listen to a number of speakers, including Jacqui Remond from Catholic Earthcare Australia, and dialogue about what can be done at an individual and community level to address climate change. The evening will end with the crafting of a beautiful message for world leaders in New York using solar powered lights.

Events around the globe will follow this event in Sydney, finishing in New York where thousands of people will take to the streets outside the UN. The evening will culminate in a spectacular light show, showcasing the messages and actions from global events, including ours here in Sydney.

Please bring a candle or torch. Catholic Earthcare will provide solar powered lights and some candles.

#LighttheWay is part of the action/2015 movement, for more information visit http://action2015.org/. This event is organised by Catholic Earthcare Australia, but open to people of all faiths.
