Its main aims are to strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and within Australia. It also encourages research, discussion and action to address these problems including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments.

In 2010, up to 600 organisations around Australia pariticipated in more than 450 activities during the week, with a total participation of more than 10,000 people. Some of these activities were forums, workshops, petitions, performances, rallies, debates and lobbying. To find out more go to the Anti-Poverty Week website here.
