global goals150World Leaders have committed to 17 Global Goals to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice and fix climate change in the next 15 years.

On 2 August 2015, Ambassador Macharia Kamau of Kenya declared that delegates from 193 countries of the United Nations had finally arrived at a consensus behind a new development agenda for the next 15 years.

After almost three years of consultations among various stakeholders and deliberations among Member States on a successor framework to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that expire this year, a post-2015 development agenda was finally agreed after feverish negotiations that extended two days beyond the target date of completion. On September 25th, 193 world leaders adopted this set of global goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.

If the goals are going to work, everyone needs to know about them. For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, the private sector, civil society and people like you. If you want to get involved, you can start by telling everyone about them.
