Making our vote count

In these weeks leading to the election, CRA Justice Network will continue to provide information and the opportunity to reflect on some of the key issues.

As we journey to the Election, let us heed Annette Cunliffe’s words in her Pathways message from CRA, “Australians need to cast a vote that is responsible and principled”.

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, in its recent publication, Vote for the Common Good, reminds us that “We need to take our democratic freedoms seriously and become involved in the political process”.

We remember the words of Jesus: “This requires prayer and fasting”. (Mathew 17: 21)

Let us pray for Australia during this time of a Federal Election.

Spirit of God grant us a stillness of spirit within you.

Calm any turmoil within with the gentleness of your peace.

Quiet any anxiety within with a deep trust in you.

Heal the wounds of sin within with the joy of your forgiveness.

Strengthen the faith within with the awareness of your presence.

Confirm the hope within with the knowledge of your strength.

Give fullness to the love within with an outpouring of your love.

All loving and ever-present God,

You encircle us with Your wisdom and inspire us with Your Word.

Look with love on us, the people of Australia,

as we prepare to vote in the coming Federal Election.

Send Your Spirit to guide us in our decisions

that they may be in harmony with Your vision for Australia.

Enlighten the hearts and the minds of all engaged in this process,

so that true freedom and good leadership for Australia will be achieved.

We ask this in the name of Jesus, Your Son,

who lives with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Amen.
