Sister Maria Casey rsj has been elected as the new President of the Canon Law Society of Australia and New Zealand during the Society's recent conference from 10-13 September in Auckland, New Zealand. She also has the distinction of being the first woman to hold this role.
Sr Maria is known for her role as Postulator for the Cause of Canonisation of Mary MacKillop, along with fellow Postulator Fr Paul Gardiner sj. Their work culminated in the canonisation ceremony for Mary Mackillop, also known as Saint Mary of the Cross in October 2010.
She takes on this role as the 11th President of the Society and is joined in the Executive Committee by Dr Rodger Austin, Rev Ken Cafe ofm, Rev Paul Clark and Very Rev Brendan Daly.
