Radio Bosco celebrates

On the plains of Guadalcanal, the first community radio station in the Solomon Islands, Radio Bosco celebrated its third anniversary of broadcasting in March 2008.

Fr Ambrose Pereira SDB (pictured, left) the SIGNIS delegate in the Solomon's and a member of the SIGNIS World Board said the station had come a long way in reaching out to the community and making an impact on the lives of the people around Tetere.

Largely operated by young people the station has as its motto, "Empowering People and Building Community."

Solomon Kilu, a programmer and presenter, said the station had steadily increased its broadcast hours and coverage to more than 10,000 listeners on the plains and into the mountains.

James Peresini, another presenter, said that song requests are a great hit with over 50 dedication request letters every week.

Parish Priest and Rector of Don Bosco at Tetere, Fr Dominic Kachira SDB said the station is reaching the Thei communities but more can be done.

Radio Bosco is supported by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Catholic Communications Solomons, the Community Sector Programme, SIGNIS and many friends and well wishers.
